Morning High - Works Out

Some very nice synths and samples on this smooth (post-)dubstep track from Morning High. A relaxing track despite the heavy bass and complex layers.

Bruises - Spit//Silk

Brilliant 7/4 bass tune from Bruises. The tune flows really well despite the unusual time signature. Nice smooth chords and a chilled atmosphere throughout. Really like the soft vocal samples and the overall very crisp production.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe (Cold Napoleons Remix)

You know that song you’ve had stuck in your head for the last two weeks that you’re ashamed of loving? You don’t need to be ashamed any more. Little-known producer (duo? trio?) The Cold Napoleons has remixed the super-happy original into an upbeat, post-dubstep roller. The remix introduces some nice new vocal chops (while still featuring the catchy chorus of the original) over smooth square-wave chords and rumbling basslines that sound like they’ve been taken straight from a Blake or Dafydd track. The second half of the track features some bright synth leads and arpeggios reminiscent of Hudson Mohawke’s “Octan”. Overall a very tight production that turns a brilliant bad song into a great one.

XXYYXX & Giraffage - Even Though

This track sees XXYYXX team up with Giraffage to bring us yet another banger. The track features the stylings typical of post-dubstep, but at a slightly-fast 142bpm. The synth chords remind me strongly of James Blake’s classic “CMYK”. Available now on Kitsuné through Beatport.

Lianne La Havas - Lost and Found (Ifan Dafydd Remix)

A bit late on this one. Some brilliant post-dubstep from the one and only Ifan Dafydd. Really like the pitched vocals and how he uses the 808 to great effect.

Henry Krinkle - CMYKrinkle

Henry Krinkle works his magic over James Blake’s classic “CMYK”, transforming it into something completely new. The classic vocal cuts are still in there, but Krinkle gives the track more of a half-time feel. And just you wait until you hear that final section. Free download here.

Booddha - Roses

A smooth post-dubstep rework of the classic “Roses” by Outkast. Definitely hearing some Ifan Dafydd/James Blake influences in there. Love those organ chords. Free download here.
